Wee Hours Of Together

Dance with the Ghosts of Tomorrow
© Kelly Letky

We are arms reaching
for last moments before
goodbye has burnt the air.

In the wee hours of together
we dance with tomorrow’s ghosts
that are still warm with memory’s flesh.

Let the promises remain unspoken.
There is no need to ask why because
the answer arrived with our first mistake.

This is one of the most true poems I have ever read, Susie--in its ability to say so much with such economy, and in its insight. Really, an instant favorite for me.I can't even pick out one line I like better than another--love them all--they all come together and not a word is wasted.

Impossible to pick one outstanding line, they each are crucial to the next... beautiful, insightful poem.

The title is splendid. You had me hooked right from the start, but the "arms reaching for last moments before goodbye has burnt the air" was my complete undoing. I have lived that moment and you have captured the essence of it in astounding perfection.

…that first stanza is so moving - and as everyone says above - the "arms reaching" is a truly inspired line! The fading of the tree just captures this so well… Lovely
