Until The Wind Sings

I am an oak leaf
clinging to spring
in the brittle dying
days of my autumn.

Defying endings
while the sun
warms my cheeks,
I hold on to life
and not the dust
calling for my bones.

Though my smile
is stained with age
Joy doesn’t fret
what the mirror speaks.

Until the wind sings
my funeral song, I will
dress in bright colors
and plant memories
where the roses bloom.

I specially admire the last stanza - there's courage to wear bright colors and plant memories where the roses bloom in the face of the dying days of autumn season ~ Hold on to life ~

Thanks for playing along Susie and wishing you happy week ~

So beautiful, holding on to life and hope, I think we all should always remain hopeful and live to the fullest.

Some eerie thoughts worth soaking up. Live we must until the end, Susie. We have no choice (or not much legally) about that. So yes, live it right. Plant memories where they will be welcomed and saved for those who outlive us.
(I don't always remember to do this unless it is something that I like to plant.)

There's so much strength hidden in the word 'oak' and the end becomes so graceful naturally...acceptance has a beauty of its own...a lovely poem Susie .....

Nice alliteration and image of self/leaf, esp. in first stanza.
Love the positive intention of the last stanza. To colors and bloom! :)x

I LOVE your title! You are too young for this to be autobiographical so I am gathering you are using the voice of the poet featured in the prompt at Toads. (I havent been over there yet, am absolutely BURIED in backed up work online). This is beautifully written, poignant, and affirming. With a powerful closing declaration. Great work, Susie!
